they give you a sense of something new. Something reflective of modernity, progress and moving forward.. yet interlaced with an introspective feel at the same time.
I like glass buildings but more than that, i like a sense of the old and authenticity.
Give me that anytime, give me a cosy, old warm little place i can crawl into and seek solace and comfort anytime.
We're conditioned to liking the new, spanking new shiny happy people.
I like the quaint and old. Visited The Majestic for Dad's b'day which was lovely, interesting experience, eclectic and really the chinese restaurant is reminds me of a hip restaurant in downtown Sydney but what i like is how the surroundings remind us all a little of the past and old Singapore, what with the neighbouring clan associations and even the strains of an ongoing opera practise!
Been exploring parts of Singapore,as i said, I'm a tourist in my own home ;p and proud of it. There's still plenty to discover if only we had the patience, the curiousity and the company to uncover it with.
Little India, Geylang Serai, Chinatown, Changi.. they are all special in their own way. Each carrying a distinctive flavour that isn't quite replicated elsewhere on our little island. Every day we report for work, oblivious to many things around us that are the sum total of the lives of others amongst us. I stepped out of the front door to the office today and saw a man seated right beside the door step rummaging through old things that we had thrown out. It just seemed disconcerting seeing this. No, I did not feel obliged to ask anything but I just felt it all didn't quite add up. It might all have been simple and really nothing noteworthy but is this really quite the sum total of the life he leads each day? I don't want to imagine, really.
Another day's to come, another day at work.
Another day of troubles, another day of problems to solve.
Another day of worry and one day closer to the weekend.
