the small adjustments

i think i've had quite enough of...seeing the heaps of people each day as i travel on the MRT. No one really cares what the person next to you is doing.
NO one really bothers so much as to muster a smile, however small, that could make one feel better, much less a conversation.
Quite frankly, the vast majority of us have been brought up to care only for ourselves and immediate loved ones. 自己顾自己as they say...

Don't get me wrong, i'm not lamenting the fact that we are not friendly to others but rather the fact that not many of us would really go the extra mile and do something nice, even for the ones we know.

When you start working, it's an immediate bond with the people travelling in the same cabin day to day.. the faces we get accustomed to seeing. A comfortable familiarity takes over almost. And yet, at times, i just wish it were easier to just break down the barriers and have a simple conversation. Chances are, we're all going through the same long hours at work, demanding deadlines and needless stress and admin... i'm thinking that already speaks volumes about commonalities.

Events - these are the things that help to break that drab monotony that spells our lives sometimes. I just returned from one this evening organised by an alumni association and I'm feeling much encouraged by the response and enthusiasm. It was fun, made us feel good and enjoy ourselves and I really hope to be part of a planning comm for a really successful one that we can put up in our alumni group as well!
Targeting next year and hoping it will work out.*fingers crossed.

Question: What do you do on your weekends?
- I play tennis
- Jazz ballet
- Lunch, Coffee with a friend/2
- Dinner with the family or bunch of friends
- Drinks occasionally
- Shopping but it's more about walking around fairly aimlessly, just browsing.
- Movies
- So tell me what else is a recommended fun shared activity that's good in SG??!
