We've all heard the old adage "the grass is always greener on the other side.."
At times, this is really true. I don't necessarily respect those who hang on for dear life in their present work place but complain ceaselessly, not really taking the effort to improve their working lives. Rather, i respect those who take the leap and really pursue what they have set out to do, if they fail, hey, at least the tried.
Of course, this is notwithstanding the fact that most have commitments and are tied down as such to their work, pursuing the monetary returns instead of passion.
I've been missing Aust! I've been missing in particular just the vibe, the overall feel, whether it's the lazy brekkie at Roundabout Cafe or the wonderous buzz that Melbourne just evokes from the beautifully dressed up window displays and equally dressed up men and women who walk the streets each day, Australia has this really wonderful, genuinely relaxed feel that is quite simply evident from speaking to an individual on the street, walk into any chemist or Coles and pick up something, there's always a cheery "How're ya doing mate?" It's just a nice greeting that i miss.
Think it's always a matter of humour, how people connect. I loved the CRM course where we learnt about building a bond, person to person and it's so true. EVen the toughest of people have something in common with us. if only we can figure out what it is, hey, maybe we can relate in a certain way. Makes for a better life for both of us at work so why not?
It was pleasing to see how many Aussies i met had a huge book in hand, ever ready to just set themselves down with a cuppa and bury themselves in the book. I like that.
I like just grabbing a pink lady apple, sitting under the shade of a sprawling tree and just reading.. whiling the afternoon away.
Now that i'm back in the leafy "suburb" of Bukit Timah, well i can still do that but it' s just not quite the same. I'd be hard-pressed to find a spot where the irritating drone of morning/afternoon traffic will not break the seeming peaceful and tranquil surroundings. People are stressed here.Live with it.
Thing is, it is a give and take thing.
You've gotta learn to live with the good and the bad of whatever you've been given. Stress? Well, truth is, we wouldn't have much push or drive without this self-same stress. Challenges are the fun part. What makes the difference between a challenge and stress? Well, i think its just perspective.
Challenges are that which we'd readily take up. We view them as something we can overcome, stress is that emotional response that kicks in when we feel we're climbing some insurmountable hill. That's well, not necessarily a happy thing but it's necessary and ORGANISATION is key to achievng all the little tasks and not letting them pile to a hopeless, helpless heap.
Who says we can't have our fun despite the stress? We hang out, go catch a movie (sometimes the brainless sort is better!) Drinks => Missing the fantastic beer Pure Blond, ESB, Carlton Cold,ah... why can't i get that on the tap here?
Soccer => which i've learnt is incredibly good for de-stressing, not to mention team-building. You totally figure who are your team players.
I miss my course mates! Hope i'll see them at the Z4 launch tmr!
Nights.
